Founded in 1900, the museum preserves and presents the rich historical and cultural heritage that is part of the identity of Banská Štiavnica and Slovakia. Its expositions and activities are devoted to the documentation of the development of mining, the protection of minerals and the development of mining towns and areas, with a special focus on Banská Štiavnica and the Protected Landscape Area Štiavnické vrchy.
The Slovak Mining Museum plays a key role in the protection and presentation of mining heritage.
