Garden Kammerhof
SETTING UP A COMMUNITY ORGANIC GARDEN
The establishment of a community garden in Kammerhof is one of the five activities of the Green Mission project, which focuses on the restoration and greening of historic spaces in the heart of Banská Štiavnica.
Current status
The courtyard of the Kammerhof in its current state represents untapped potential within a national cultural monument located in the historic centre. The main problems are its use as a car park and its neglected structural and technical condition. The stone paving is damaged and the gravel embankments of the paved areas are in a poor condition, including poorly drained ground. The courtyard lacks a rest and information zone that would welcome museum visitors or casual visitors from the street.

Kammerhof Garden
The aim of the activity is to reduce the environmental burden on the Kammerhof courtyard, to rehabilitate the neglected public areas of the building and to create new educational activities.
A new public space will be created in the courtyard of the Kammerhof: a community garden with greenery and a water retention system in the form of a replacement of the paving of some parts of the courtyard. The space will be used for training for the project partners, but also other schools and local communities. This activity of the Green Mission project will connect the upper and lower parts of the Kammerhof courtyard and create a pleasant relaxation area for museum visitors.
Rainwater will be retained and used to support the vegetation cycle in the area. The infiltration of rainwater and its evaporation will promote a change in the local microclimate. The reuse of water from a local well will build on the historic water cycle in the area.
The landscaped environment will support the development of community life with the use of a community garden where plants and herbs can be grown. The revitalized space will be used for new public education programs to raise awareness about climate change.
Objective and outcomes
The aim of establishing a community garden is to create a platform to support active civic and professional communities, to connect generations and form international partnerships.
